Gavi is known for its abundant wildlife and avian reserves. The exceptional flora and fauna of the region draws many Nature lovers and researchers to it. Gavi is also home to many endangered species like the Nilgiri Tahr and the Lion-tailed Macaque.
The more than 260 species of birds here include the Great Pied Hornbill, sunbirds, various species of mynas, cuckoos, bulbuls, woodpeckers, kingfishers and so on. Herds of elephants, Gaur, Sambar deer, Barking deer, Mouse deer, wild dogs, tigers, various types of reptiles and so on are found here.
The flora of Gavi includes the Nageia Wallichinia (Podocarpus Wallichinia), a highly endemic species of the Gymnosperm family.
