The spices produced in the Cardamom Hills of Kerala have always found many takers, both inside and outside India. As such, tourists frequently visit the plantations and factories. Being a hub of spice plantations, Kumily has experimented with various spice tourism programmes. These have emerged to be successful models.
Kumily offers its tourists the opportunity to wander through the plantations. Some of them provide accommodation facilities as well. The spice shops on the Kumily streets as well as the spice fest organized in the High Ranges attract many tourists.
A visit to other plantations such as those of tea, coffee etc can also be arranged when at Kumily. The new tourism programmes have brought an increase in the number of visitors to the place while providing an extra income to the farmers of the plantations.
