Chavittikali - a folk art form

Among the many folk art forms of Kerala, the ones originating from the region comprising the districts of Thrissur and Palakkad are many and interesting. Chavittikali is one such folk art form belonging to this region, which is performed as part of festivals. During earlier days Chavittikali was performed in front of the head of families in ancestral houses called Tharavadu. The performance would have both men and women dancing to the accompaniment of melodious songs.

The picture here is from a Chavittikali performance staged in front of an ancestral house near Wadakanchery at in Thrissur.
