A Fortress of Fortitude and Endurance – Kannur Fort

The St. Angelo’s Fort, is not just another edifice you can casually walk through. Rather, it is a fortress of fortitude and endurance. Stands high on the shores of Arabian Sea, this fort have witness to and resisted numerous attempts to invade the shores of Malabar. The fort bestows you the breathtaking view of Moplah Bay, the natural fishing bay, and of Dharmadom Island, in the Arabian Sea. The fort once functioned as a strategic military base for the Portuguese navy. The moat, the strong, parallel bastions, the ammunition dumps, the underground jails and the secret tunnels stand testimony to the planning and the meticulous work that went into the construction of this strategic military base. The picture here is that of the underground prison corridor.
