Kottappuram Fort, Thrissur

Also known as Cranganore Fort, the now-dilapidated Kottappuram Fort in Thrissur district was built by the Portuguese in 1523.  It is located at the mouth of the Periyar River. Kottappuram Fort played a significant role in many wars between the Zamorin and the rulers of Cochin (Kochi). The port is part of the Muziris Heritage Project and from the fort, we can explore the nearby Kottappuram market and Cheraman Juma Masjid.
