Those who seek the beauty of Munnar are regularly asked to add Mattupetty Lake to their itinerary, as this is among those sensational sites that shall ensure you get the complete Idukki experience. Mattupetty, located about 13 km from Munnar, is always a delight for nature lovers. This tourist spot, situated at a height of 1700 m, offers beautiful sights while you drive towards it. Gigantic hills on all sides, with a slow current and an even gentler breeze accompanying you the whole way, make this among the finest picnicking and trekking sites in all of God’s Own Country.

The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC), Idukki, provides boating facilities at the dam. Other nearby places of interest include the scenic Kundala tea plantations and the Kundala Lake. Another attraction here is a dairy farm run by the Indo-Swiss Livestock Project
