Noted for its traditional architecture, Poonjar Palace in Kottayam district stands as a testimony to the regal opulence of a bygone era. The 600-year-old palace features a museum, housing rock-cut lamps, a palanquin, a droni (treatment bed), huge chandeliers, statues, weapons, palm-leaf engravings, jewel boxes and a conch shell. Another attraction is an amazing replica of the famous Meenakshi Temple of Tamil Nadu that has been put up on the premises.
