Theyyam is an ancient form of ritual art popular in the northern part of Kerala. Adorned with elaborate costumes, vibrant headgears and loud makeup, this temple dance form allures all. Mukhamezhuthu, the art of painting the face of theyyam is a delight to watch. One peculiarity of theyyam make-up is that natural ingredients are used as colours to create minute expressions. Red, black, yellow and white colours are mainly used.
