Vaikom Mahadeva Temple, Kottayam

An ancient temple dedicated to Lord Siva, Vaikom Mahadeva Temple in Kottayam district is popular for its annual Vaikathashtami festival. The Shiva Linga here is believed to be from the Treta Yuga (the second of the four yugas, or ages of humankind). A typical example of Kerala style of architecture, the temple is famous for its elephant pageants and traditional art performances.
