Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary is a much acclaimed bird sanctuary. It owes much of its fame to Dr. Salim Ali, the internationally renowned ornithologist. With over 300 bird species and a plethora of other wildlife, the sanctuary sprawls over 25 sq. km on the northern bank of the Periyar River in the Kothamangalam Taluk of Ernakulam district. Thattekkad is famous for its plantations of teak, rosewood and mahogany. This was established in 1983
Parambikulam Tiger Reserve which is also a wildlife sanctuary is nestled between the Anamalai and Nelliampathy Hills. It is situated in Chittur taluk of Palakkad district and is about 100 km away from Palakkad. Parambikkulam boasts of the first scientifically managed teak plantations of the world. It also houses the world's tallest and oldest teak tree.
Ponmudi situated 61 km from Thiruvananthapuram city is an enchanting hill station destination famous for its mist covered hills. The place offers excellent trekking trail to the hill of Varayadumotta. It is part of the Western Ghats range and is known for its lush greenery, scenic landscapes, and cool climate.

Konni is among the most prominent elephant training centres in Kerala. Located in Pathanamthitta district, it attracts visitors in large numbers throughout the year. One of the major attractions here are the giant wooden cages used to house the elephants. Locally known as Aanakoodu, they can house up to 3 to 4 elephants at a time.
