Responsible Tourism (RT) Mission is planning to implement green protocol in the backwaters of Kerala to control pollution.   RT also plans to bring the houseboat industry, a major polluter of the Vembanad Lake, under the green protocol. As a first step, a Rs. 15 lakh waste management project is underway for Kumarakom, Pallathuruthy and Punnamada.

RT will classify houseboats based on their performance and promote green houseboats. Efforts will be brought forward to spread the advantages of sustainable tourism.
