Ms. Dhanya Sabu has been serving as the People's Representative of Kumarakom Grama Panchayat since 2006-2007, the year the Responsible Tourism Mission was launched in Kerala. She Served as Grama Panchayat President twice. She is currently serving as the Grama Panchayat President, as well as a State Resource Person for Responsible Tourism and the Women-Friendly Projects. In 2013-14, she represented India at the World Travel Market in London, where she presented a seminar on the responsible tourism practices implemented in Kumarakom Grama Panchayat. Under her leadership, the Panchayat received the Best Civic Management Local Body in Tourism award at the National Tourism Awards in 2012-13 and the Best Agri Tourism Village award at the 2024 National Tourism Awards.
