Under the leadership of the State Responsible Tourism Mission, the Maravanthuruthu Grama Sabha became a major event of the PEPPER tourism project. This Special Tourism Grama Sabha conducted on January 19, 2018 proved to be the best instance of public participation.
In the function which was chaired by Mr. P.P. Harikutten, President, Grama Panchayath, Mr. K. Rupesh Kumar, Co-ordinator, Responsible Tourism Mission, explained the objectives of the project. After the inaugural ceremony, the Grama Sabha divided itself into seven subject groups and conducted discussions. The different subject groups were Tourism Resource Mapping, farming and animal protection tourism development, traditional jobs and tourism development, ritual arts and festivals and tourism development, tourism and primary facilities development, tourism projects that combine Kudumbashree and tourism, Human Resource Development.
With the active participation of local communities, members of local self-governing institutions and the Responsible Tourism Mission, the event attained great success. The members of Local self-governing institutions and the MLA spoke about the use and the mode of functioning of this project.
The thrust areas of discussions were mainly related to the creation and implementation of a tourism master plan, sanctioning and execution of tourism programmes that are brought forward by local self-governments, FAM trips, tourism marketing, tourism and primary facilities development and so forth.
With the involvement of local communities in the implementation of the objectives of the PEPPER project, the tourism activities of Maravanthuruthu are getting ready to conquer new heights.
