The Vaikom Grama Sabha discussed the future possibilities and potentials of the PEPPER project. At least 2000 people will get employment as part of PEPPER. The Responsible Tourism Mission gives training for all those who wish to work for the project. The Mission hopes to transform Vaikom into one of the most prominent destinations of RT Mission with the implementation of PEPPER.
In the Grama Sabha which was chaired by Ms. Indiradevi, Chairperson, Vaikom Municipality, Ms. Biji Xavier, the Mission coordinator presented the objectives and possibilities of the project. With the active participation of local communities, members of local self-governing institutions and the Responsible Tourism Mission, the event attained great success.
After the inaugural ceremony, the Grama Sabha formed itself into seven subject groups and conducted discussions among them. The main areas of discussions were Tourism Resource Mapping, tourism and primary facilities development, agriculture, animal husbandry and tourism development, traditional occupations and tourism, arts, festivals, tour packages, human resource development, Kudumbashree and tourism projects.
In the Grama Sabha, the Mission stated the importance of the support of local-self-governing institutions and local communities in making Vaikom a major Responsible Tourism destination and thereby giving a push to the tourism industry.
