Check out how you can reach Sabarimala through the exciting route of Vandiperiyar
It might not be the traditional path, but it is indeed an exciting route to take on your trip to Sannidhanam. Vandiperiyar is a beautiful hamlet located in the Idukki district of Kerala. One of the main points in the Kottayam-Kumily Road, Vandiperiyar is one of the most joyous routes to take on the Sabarimala trek.
There are two ways to reach Sabarimala from Vandiperiyar. The prominent of these takes the pilgrims through spots such as Kozhikkanam, Pullumedu, Uppupara and Uralkuzhi Theertham. The other route is from Vandiperiyar to Mount Estate, from where devotees have to walk up to the Sannidhanam.
Pilgrims can board Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses or make use of private jeep services from Vandiperiyar to Uppupara. The devotees will then have to trek through Pandi Thavalam to reach Sabarimala. Pandi Thavalam is a major resting camp for devotees to Sabarimala. They will have to then pass through Vallakadavu and Kozhikkanam in order to reach Pullumedu, from where they can proceed to the Sannidhanam.
The Vandiperiyar route to Sabarimala has gained much popularity over the years for being a convenient path for pilgrims from other states to reach the abode of Ayyappa.
