The Sabarimala temple is unique in that it does not remain open through the year. Pilgrim season is primarily from November to the middle of January. The two main events of the pilgrim season are Mandalapooja and Makaravilakku. The Temple remains closed most of the days other than these, except for the first five days of every Malayalam month and during the day of Vishu that falls in April.
