Chettikulangara Bhagavathy temple is situated in Mavelikkara taluk in Alappuzha district. It is one of the most renowned Devi temples in Kerala, with Sree Bhadrakali as the main deity. There are various other sub deities in shrines located adjacent to the temple.
One of the important festivals celebrated here is the Chettikulangara Bharani dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy during the months of February–March. A prominent highlight of the festival is Kettukazhcha where giant, elaborately decorated structures of temple cars known as Kuthira, chariots known as Theru, icons of Lord Hanuman, Bhima, Panchali (popular characters from Indian epics) are all paraded to the temple through the city roads.
Kuthiyottam is another important and unique ritual performed to propitiate the deity here. It is a ritual folk dance performed by young boys to the accompaniment of folk music and other instrumental music.
