The Chowallor Shiva Temple is a beautiful shrine built in the traditional Kerala style of architecture. The temple is situated at Guruvayoor in Thrissur, Kerala. The temple is noted for its vibrant mural paintings on the outer walls of the main sanctum sanctorum. Episodes from the Mahabharata are beautifully depicted here.
The round, two-storeyed sanctum sanctorum of this temple is unique and is believed to be a thousand years old. The temple possesses a 10 feet tall balikkallu (sacrificial stone) and Sapthamathrukkal (black stone idols symbolizing the seven divine Mothers).
