The story goes that the Goddess of this temple came from the Kodaykkathu Bhagavathy temple in Velloor because she was displeased with the lack of cleanliness in her own temple. She thus moved and installed herself in the present Devasthanam. The Theyyams performed here include Paradevatha, Kaayichan, Gurunathan, Gulikan, Karim Chamundi and Kummanatti. The temple can be reached by crossing the Kara Thalichalam Bridge on the Kannur - Payyanur route.
