Day Title Description
1. Palaces and Temples visit Ettumanoor - This is an ancient Shiva temple in Kottayam, Kerala, India. The present temple building, along with the fortress around it, was reconstructed in 717 ME (1542 AD). There are Dravidian mural paintings on the walls inside and outside of the main entrance. The fresco of Pradosha Nritham (Dance of Shiva) is one of the finest Wall paintings in India. There is a golden flag staff inside the temple. On the top of it is the idol of a bull surrounded by small bells and metal leaves of the banyan tree and in terms of architecture, this temple stands out to be an ultimate testimony for the vishwakarma Sthapathis, for their engineering skills. The temple roofs are covered with copper sheets and it has 14 ornamental tops. Church Visit @ Kottayam Visit the ancient Syrian Christian churches, Cheriya palli and Valiya palli St. Mary’s Orthodox Syrian Church commonly known as Kottayam Cheriyapally is one of the oldest Orthodox churches in India in Kerala, India. Built in 1579, the church is well preserved. The architectural style of the church is based on a mixture of Persian and Kerala style, with galleries, pillars, cornices and pediments. The walls are adorned with beautiful murals made in Oriental and Western styles on biblical and non biblical themes. The Church belongs to the Malankara Orthodox Syrian church, an Independent church believed to be established by St. Thomas and following vestments and liturgy of the Syriac Orthodox Church. The church called Valiyapally and along with Cheriyapally is one of the two churches dedicated to Mother Mary. This church is also close to 400 years old. The architecture is one to behold as well.
