Even in the summer months, the Malabar region of Kerala is alive with a string of festivals. The Kalams or awe inspiring forms of gods drawn on the floor with fine powders in variegated hues, the rhythmic dancing of ritual art forms, the majestic oracles moving in frenzied trance all arrive. The festive mood of the gathering reaches its crescendo in the traditional orchestra reverberating with the excitement, anticipation and beliefs of the simple people of this land.
