A tour of Kerala can never be complete unless and until one tastes the true spirit of this place apparent in the innumerable festivals conducted here. Arattu festival in Janardhana temple is one such event that flaunts the rich and vibrant colour of this place. This Arattu Festival commences with Kodiyettu (Flag Hoisting) on Karthika day and ends with Arattu on Uthram day (another auspicious day). The grand procession with five caparisoned elephants decked with ornamental silk umbrellas and peacock fans adds colour to this festival. The procession makes the event unique and marks it as one of the significant festivals of Kerala. The fourth and fifth day during Arattu is celebrated with various performances like Kathakali dance all night long.
