Born in a rich Gowdasaraswath Brahmin family of Thalassery Swami Aanantha Theerthar (Anantha Shenoy) was the last disciple of Sree Narayana Guru. He was known for his adamant fights against the social injustices in Kerala. Though he had a Bsc (Hon.) degree in Physics from Madras University he overlooked his high prospects for his passion for public service.
In 1926 Anantha Shenoy became a member of Sabari Ashram. His first meeting with Guru took place in a house in Coimbatore were they exchanged their ideas on the general upliftment of the society. The Guru was impressed when he heard that Shenoy was working for the Sabari Ashram. In August 1928 he accepted the ascetic way of life and became the disciple of Sree Narayana Guru. The Guru gave him the name Anantha Theerthar. Despite encountering continuous threats from the upper class people he spared his entire life for the welfare of the lower class of people. He started the Sree Narayana School and hostel for Harijan children at Payyannur.
