Aanayoottu at Vadakkumnathan Temple
During Karkkidakam (July/August), Vadakkumnathan Temple in Thrissur hosts Aanayoottu, where elephants are fed by thousands of devotees. These elephants are lined up and given a special feed made from sugarcane, rice, ghee, coconut, jaggery, and Ayurvedic medicines to enhance their health. The ritual, linked to the worship of Lord Ganesha, the obstacle-removing elephant-faced deity, is believed to bring blessings. This event is a significant cultural and religious one at the temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.
