Bell Metal Crafts

Every handicraft product of Kerala has its own story to narrate. Bell metal crafts are one such product known for their centuries-old craftsmanship and heritage. This metal is a unique blend of tin and copper. Decor items, religious artefacts, sculptures are made with this age-old crafting technique.

Kunhimangalam heritage village in Kannur and Mannar village in Mavelikkara are two prominent places in Kerala famed for bell metal crafts. The artisans of these villages produce an array of bell metal products that include household utensils like Uruli, Nilavilakku (a wick lamp), Kindi (a spouted pitcher) and idols of Hindu Gods like Lord Shiva, Lord Krishna and Goddess Lakshmi. Most of the articles are made without machines and hence are unique and exclusive.
