Cherpu Wooden Elephants


 

Cherpu, a sleepy hamlet in Thrissur is known for its wood-carved elephants. These models are made with either teak or rosewood and the craftsmanship is handed down from one generation to the next.
Both miniature and life-size elephants are crafted to perfection by skilled artisans here in Cherpu.
Travellers from different parts of the world visit this village to watch the artisans sculpt remarkable models of fascinating jumbos.
The wooden elephants produced here is famous all over the world and are available in almost all souvenir shops across the state.
