Karkkadaka Vavu Bali

Karkkadaka Vavu Bali is a Hindu ritual performed across Kerala during the Malayalam month of Karkkadakam (July-August) to honour ancestors. This ritual involves fasting, offering prayers, and taking dips in sacred waters, typically guided by a priest. Notable mass ceremonies occur at the Periyar river near Aluva’s Shiva temple and Papanasam beach in Varkala. The ritual is believed to liberate the souls of the deceased, ensuring them eternal peace, and is an important tradition in Kerala.
