Kottiyur Festival

It is a temple festival with elaborate ceremonies and rituals, and the origin of the temple is tagged to the Daksha Yagam as mentioned in Hindu mythology. The video shows some moments from the annual festival at the Kottiyur Temple in Kannur District. Here the presiding deity, Lord Shiva, is not worshipped in the physical form but in concept. The annual twenty-seven day Kottiyur festival draws devotees from near and far, who take part in various ceremonies held at the two temple premises, located on opposite sides of a river, that are known as Akkare Kottiyur and Ikkare Kottiyur.
