Margam Kali

A group of women in traditional Syrian Christian attire, moving in sync with charismatic elegance, retell the story of the great Apostle who introduced Christianity to our shores. The video clip above depicts the famous Margam Kali dance. Translating literally to 'the way' or 'the path’, it goes back to before the times of the first Portuguese missionaries reaching Kerala. Traditionally performed by women forming a circle around a lighted Nilavilakku (traditional Kerala wick lamp), it is the highlight of many a dance festival. People can sit back and soak in the dancers swaying to the music of an ancient text, which retells the story of how the Church was established in God’s Own Country.
