Some 37 km off Thiruvananthapuram lies Varkala, one of the major tourist spots in the district. The Varkala beach here is the major crowd puller. Its stunning red laterite cliff-backed beach attracts scores of tourists all year-round. One of the best occasions to enjoy the beach is during the monsoon season.
