Mudiyettu

Mudiyettu is a ritual art popular in the Kaali Temples of Central Kerala (Ernakulam and Kottayam). This unique art form celebrates the triumph of Goddess Kaali over the demon Darikan.

Kalamezhuthu ritual is conducted as part of this art form. This involves the drawing of Goddess Bhadrakali in the temple premises, using organic colour powders. This is followed by the Kalampooja, arangathu keli, Shivastuthi etc.

Mudiyettu found a place in UNESCO's Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
