Oppana

Oppana is a performing art popular among the Muslim community in Kerala. It is performed, by women including the musicians during wedding ceremonies to the accompaniment of Mappila Pattu (traditional folk song).

The bride dressed in all trimmings, covered with gold embellishments and her palms and feet decorated with henna, sits amidst the circle of dancers while the dancers sing and clap their hands rhythmically and move around the bride in perfect coordination.
