Pakkil Vanibham

Every year, a market comes alive in the outskirts of the district of Kottayam celebrating the legacy and traditions of Kerala. Vendors and visitors arrive from across the length and breadth of the State to participate in the fair which is considered as the one-stop solution for all household requirements. It is a one-of-a-kind rural market that extends to one whole month- the Pakkil Vanibham.

On the first of the Malayalam month of Karkidakom (July-August), the ground opposite the Dharma Sastha Temple at Pakkil in Kottayam gets entangled in a string of shops selling all sorts of traditional wares. The market is noted for the huge collection of quality homewares that are available at cheaper rates. Household articles, kitchen wares, pottery wares, natural products, handicrafts, agricultural implements, furniture and other traditional market fare are displayed in the fair.
