Pakshi Kolam

Pakshi Kolam is a unique kind of Padayani Kolam that has a beak like a bird. The beaks are made of arecanut leaves. The kolams wear ornaments such as Nenchumala and Aramala. Apart from this they wear red silk around the waistline and embellish it with Kuruthola.

Mythology says that Pakshi kolam is performed to prevent children from a disease regionally known as Pakshibhadha, a disease believed to be caused by birds.
