Puthiya Bhagavathy Theyyam

Theyyam, the spectacular art form popular in the northern parts of Kerala, is deep rooted in the life of the rustic folk. Their beliefs, emotions, experiences and expectations are well reflected in the Theyyam figures.

The video features the Puthiya Bhagavathy theyyam held at  Adikkumpara Puthiya Bhagavathy temple, Kannur. Mythologically the daughter of Lord Shiva, Puthiya bhagavathy possesses powers to cure illnesses like measles and pox. The costume and looks of this particular Theyyam is fierce and awe-inspiring, with burning torches fixed on the dress made up of tender coconut fronds.
