Theyyam festival at Thayineri Sreekurinji Temple

Thayineri Sree Kurinji Temple is famed for its annual theyyam festival. It is believed that the Punnaakkan joint family head brought a Kurinji sapling imbued with the divine spirit and implanted it at the spot that later became a Devasthanam.

The single Kurinji sapling spread around the area making it soon a grove of Kurinji. The pyre (Theekkundam) called Meleri which is lit inside the walls of the temple adds to the uniqueness of the theyyam festival performed at this venue.

You can watch the performances of Poomaruthan, Madayil Chamundi, Raktha Chamundi, Vishnumoorthy, Ottakkolam, Puthiya Bhagavathy etc here.
