Thiruvonamahotsavam

The centuries-old Vamanamoorthy temple at Thrikkakara, near Ernakulam, is noted for its extravagant celebrations during the Onam season.

This is the only temple dedicated to Vamana - one of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu - who in the guise of a Brahmin boy ended the glorious rule of King Mahabali. The temple has inscriptions from the 10th to the 13th century.

Thiruvonamahotsavam celebrated here is noted for its unique festivities and revelries. Many special rituals and rites are performed during this time of the year in the temple.
