Glimpses of Uthralikavu Pooram

Watch ‘Uthravilakku Pooram’, one of the most celebrated Pooram festivals in Kerala. The annual festival held at the Sree Ruthira Mahakalikavu temple in Thrissur, popularly known as the ‘Uthravilakku Pooram’ is an eight-day long celebration highlighted by elephant processions both day and night. The festival occurs every year on the Malayalam month of ‘Kumbham’ (Mid February- Mid March).

About twenty-one elephants in traditional attire line up with colourful parasols, swaying Venchamarams (white tufts) and Alavattams (peacock-feather fans). Traditional musical ensembles like the Panchavadyam and Pandimelam add rhythm to these processions.
